Affiliation Policy
Journal of Excellence in Social Sciences (JESS)
The Journal of Excellence in Social Sciences (JESS) requires authors to provide accurate institutional or organisational affiliations at submission. Affiliations identify where the research was conducted or supported and must reflect genuine relationships.
This policy applies to all authors of scholarly submissions, including invited articles and special-issue contributions.
1. Institutional and Organisational Affiliations
Each author must provide, where applicable:
- Department, school, faculty, or research unit;
- Full official institution or organisation name;
- City; and
- Country.
Authors should use consistent institutional names and avoid unexplained abbreviations. Names should be checked against the institution’s official information.
Affiliations must not imply employment, membership, or institutional involvement that does not exist. An affiliation does not, by itself, imply institutional endorsement of the article.
2. Affiliation During the Research
The principal affiliation should identify the institution or organisation where the author carried out the relevant work.
If an author has moved since conducting the research, the original affiliation should remain associated with the work, and the new affiliation may be supplied separately as a “Present address.”
A degree-awarding institution must not be listed solely because the author previously studied there. It may be listed where the research was undertaken there or another genuine, relevant affiliation existed.
3. Multiple Affiliations
Authors may list more than one affiliation where each represents a genuine relationship relevant to the work.
Each affiliation must be listed separately and linked to the appropriate author using superscript numbers or the journal’s prescribed format.
Authors sharing the same affiliation should use one common affiliation entry.
Temporary visits, collaborations, or access to facilities do not automatically justify an additional affiliation. Where they do not constitute a genuine affiliation, relevant assistance should be acknowledged instead.
4. Independent Researchers and Consultants
Institutional affiliation is not a condition of eligibility to submit to JESS.
Authors without an institutional or organisational affiliation may identify themselves as:
Independent Researcher, City, Country
Consultants and other professionals may list a genuine business or organisational affiliation relevant to the work.
Authors must not invent an affiliation to meet submission requirements. Private residential addresses are not required for publication.
5. Corresponding Author Information
The corresponding author must provide:
- Full name;
- Relevant affiliation or independent-researcher designation;
- A reliable email address; and
- Any additional contact information required privately by the submission system.
An institutional email address is preferred where available, but a personal professional email address is acceptable.
The corresponding author is responsible for checking that every author’s affiliation is accurate and approved by that author.
6. Double-Blind Review
Author names, affiliations, identifying acknowledgements, and contact details must be supplied in the submission metadata and a separate title-page or declarations file.
These details must be excluded from the anonymised review manuscript where they would reveal author identities.
Required ethical approval or other identifying research information may be supplied separately to the editorial office during review. Complete information must be restored in the accepted manuscript before publication.
7. Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose financial, professional, personal, or institutional relationships that could influence, or reasonably appear to influence, the research or its interpretation.
Listing an affiliation does not replace a conflict-of-interest declaration.
Relevant relationships must be disclosed under the journal’s Publication Ethics Policy.
8. Funding and Institutional Support
Funding must be reported in a separate Funding Statement, identifying the funder, grant reference where available, and the funder’s role in the research.
Non-financial assistance, access to facilities, administrative support, or other contributions may be recognised in the Acknowledgements section.
Receiving funding or assistance does not automatically establish an affiliation or qualify an individual for authorship.
Permission must be obtained before naming individuals in acknowledgements.
9. Verification and Corrections
Authors must ensure consistency between the submission metadata, title page, and final manuscript.
The journal may request clarification or supporting information where an affiliation is ambiguous or potentially inaccurate.
Changes before publication must be reported promptly to the editorial office. Substantive affiliation errors identified after publication are handled under the journal’s Post-Publication Correction and Retraction Policy.
A routine change of employment after publication does not normally require alteration of the historical affiliation.
