Abstract

Women's empowerment and the influence of country of origin (COO) are crucial to achieving sustainability goals. The country of origin effect is vital in women entrepreneurs taking business initiative. Using microcredit finance services, we explored the study objectives of women's empowerment as a sustainability goal and examined how women's entrepreneurship mediates this link. We investigated the effects of country of origin and used the primary data through a questionnaire from women in Punjab, Pakistan, who had attained the micro-credit facility. We used Smart Partial least squares (PLS) as an estimation method. Study findings show that microfinance credit services have a significant positive relationship with women's empowerment and the COO effect. Microfinance credit services have a significant positive relationship with women entrepreneurship with Punjab origin effect. Women's entrepreneurship has a significant positive relationship with women's empowerment. Our results indicate a significant positive mediating relationship between women's entrepreneurship. We concluded that microfinance credit and entrepreneurship improve women's empowerment because entrepreneurship is integral to making investment decisions and accurately boosts women's empowerment with a credit facility. This study advocated significant implications for investors, government, and legislators in improving women's empowerment in the country and leading to economic development while keeping COO effects in mind. Investors invest in microcredit to facilitate women through entrepreneurship and can protect the investment with secure repayment patterns.
