Digital Archiving Policy

The Journal of Personnel Management (JPM), published by SMARCONS (Society of Management Research and Consultancy), is committed to the long-term preservation, integrity and accessibility of its published scholarly content. The journal’s archiving arrangements are intended to support continued access to published material in the event of website failure, technical disruption, platform migration, organizational change, or discontinuation of the journal.

Internet Archive

Copies of JPM’s published content may be preserved through the Internet Archive, providing an additional archival location independent of the journal’s primary website.

JPM is committed to maintaining appropriate deposits of published content and periodically reviewing the completeness and accessibility of archived copies. Archival coverage is limited to material that has been successfully deposited or captured. The journal does not represent that every article, issue, supplementary file, or publication notice has been preserved unless the corresponding archived material has been verified.

PKP Preservation Network — Implementation in Progress

JPM uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) and is working toward preservation through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN).

Implementation is currently in progress. Successful preservation of JPM’s published content through PKP PN has not yet been confirmed. The journal will monitor implementation and deposit status, address technical issues where necessary, and update this policy once successful participation and preservation have been verified.

Until such verification is complete, JPM does not represent PKP PN as an operational preservation arrangement for its published content.

Existing copies preserved through the Internet Archive provide an additional independent archival source for material successfully deposited or captured there.

Article Files and Metadata

JPM’s digital preservation activities are intended to cover published scholarly content, including article files such as PDFs and associated bibliographic metadata where supported by the relevant preservation service.

Relevant metadata may include:

  • Article title

  • Author names

  • Author affiliations

  • Abstract

  • Keywords

  • Publication date

  • Volume and issue information

  • Article pagination or article number

  • Licensing information

  • Digital Object Identifier (DOI), where assigned

  • Publication status and related notices

The journal will take reasonable steps to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record, including corrections, retractions, expressions of concern and other relevant publication notices, and to maintain appropriate links between such notices and the affected articles.

Monitoring and Responsibility

The JPM editorial office is responsible for periodically reviewing archival coverage, checking the accessibility of archived content, monitoring the implementation of PKP PN, and coordinating the resolution of preservation-related technical issues.

Statements concerning preservation services will reflect their verified operational status and actual coverage. Planned services, incomplete deposits, pending technical configurations or implementation activities will not be presented as completed preservation arrangements.

Policy Review

This policy is publicly available on the journal website and will be reviewed periodically. Material changes relating to preservation services, archival coverage or implementation status will be reflected in updated policy wording.

Digital Object Identifier (DOI) Policy

The Journal of Personnel Management (JPM) uses Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) registered through Crossref to support persistent identification, citation, discovery and linking of published scholarly content.

DOI Assignment

Where a DOI is assigned to a published article, it serves as the permanent identifier associated with that specific scholarly item.

The DOI should remain associated with the article even if the article is moved to a different URL or the journal platform is migrated.

DOI Display and Linking

For articles with registered DOIs, the DOI is displayed, where applicable, in:

  • Article metadata

  • The article landing page

  • The published article PDF

  • Citation information associated with the article

DOIs are displayed using the standard HTTPS format:

https://doi.org/[DOI]

The DOI should resolve to the corresponding article landing page maintained by JPM.

The article landing page provides or links to relevant bibliographic information, licensing information and access to the published full text.

Metadata Maintenance

JPM is responsible for maintaining accurate Crossref metadata associated with its registered DOIs and for updating DOI destination URLs when article locations change.

Where applicable, Crossref metadata may be updated to reflect:

  • Changes to article URLs

  • Corrections

  • Retractions

  • Publication-status changes

  • Updated bibliographic information

  • Related publication notices

A DOI remains associated with the scholarly item for which it was originally registered. Moving an article to a different web location does not normally require the assignment of a new DOI.

Corrections and Retractions

Where a published article is corrected, retracted or otherwise subject to a formal publication notice, JPM will take reasonable steps to maintain the DOI and update the associated metadata or links as appropriate.

The DOI of a retracted article should continue to resolve to the scholarly record, where the retraction status and relevant notice can be clearly identified.

Relationship to Digital Preservation

DOIs provide persistent identification and linking but do not, by themselves, preserve article files or guarantee long-term access.

JPM’s arrangements for preserving published files and associated metadata are described separately in its Digital Archiving and Preservation Policy.

Author Self-Archiving Policy

The Journal of Personnel Management (JPM) supports the dissemination and accessibility of scholarly research and permits authors to deposit and share permitted versions of their manuscripts without embargo, self-archiving fees or prior permission from the journal or publisher.

Permitted Versions

Authors may deposit the following versions of their manuscripts immediately upon their availability:

  • Submitted Manuscript / Preprint: The manuscript version submitted before peer review.

  • Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM): The version incorporating revisions accepted following peer review but prior to final journal typesetting and production.

  • Version of Record (VoR): The final version formally published by JPM.

No embargo period is imposed by JPM on the deposit of these permitted manuscript versions.

Permitted Locations

Authors may deposit permitted versions of their manuscripts in:

  • Institutional repositories

  • Subject or disciplinary repositories

  • Funder-designated repositories

  • Personal academic websites

  • Institutional websites

  • University repositories

  • Other lawful scholarly repositories or platforms

Authors may also share their work through academic networking platforms, subject to the terms and conditions of those platforms.

Academic networking services and personal websites are dissemination channels and do not replace the journal’s formal digital preservation arrangements.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright in their published work.

Articles published by JPM are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

The CC BY 4.0 license permits users to:

  • Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format

  • Adapt, remix, transform and build upon the material

  • Make commercial and non-commercial use of the material

These uses are permitted provided that appropriate attribution is given, a link to the applicable license is provided, and any changes made to the original work are indicated.

Third-party material specifically excluded from the article’s Creative Commons license remains subject to the copyright, licensing or permission terms stated for that material.

Identification of Deposited Versions

Authors should clearly identify the manuscript version deposited in a repository or other platform.

For example, the deposited version may be identified as:

  • Submitted Manuscript

  • Author Accepted Manuscript

  • Version of Record

When depositing the Version of Record, authors should include the complete journal citation and DOI, where assigned, or the permanent URL of the published article.

Once the Version of Record has been published, authors are encouraged to update repository records for earlier manuscript versions by adding the formal citation and DOI or permanent link to the published article.

Author Reuse

Authors may reuse their published work in scholarly and educational activities, including:

  • Theses and dissertations

  • Books and book chapters

  • Teaching materials

  • Course materials

  • Conference presentations

  • Research presentations

  • Institutional repositories

  • Subsequent scholarly works

Such reuse should comply with appropriate attribution requirements, research and publication-ethics standards, and any restrictions applicable to third-party copyrighted material.

No Embargo or Additional Permission Requirement

JPM imposes no embargo period on the self-archiving of permitted manuscript versions.

Authors do not need to obtain additional permission from JPM or SMARCONS (Society of Management Research and Consultancy) to deposit the submitted manuscript, Author Accepted Manuscript or Version of Record in an appropriate repository or scholarly platform, provided applicable copyright and licensing requirements are respected.

Relationship to Open Access

JPM’s Author Self-Archiving Policy complements the journal’s Open Access Policy and Copyright and Licensing Policy.

Self-archiving provides authors with an additional means of increasing the visibility, discoverability and accessibility of their research while maintaining clear links to the Version of Record.
