Copyright & Licensing Policy
1. Copyright Ownership
The Journal of Personnel Management (JPM), published by SMARCONS (Society of Management Research and Consultancy), recognizes and respects the intellectual property rights of authors.
All articles published in JPM remain the intellectual property of their respective author(s). Authors retain copyright ownership of their original scholarly work without being required to transfer copyright to the journal or its publisher.
Neither JPM nor SMARCONS claims ownership of the scholarly content published in the journal.
By agreeing to publish an article in JPM, authors grant the journal and its publisher a non-exclusive license to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, preserve, index, and disseminate the article in electronic and print formats.
This non-exclusive arrangement enables the journal to publish and maintain the scholarly record while allowing authors to retain their copyright and exercise their rights under the applicable open access license.
Each published article must clearly display the following copyright statement:
© [Year] The Author(s). Published by the Journal of Personnel Management (JPM), SMARCONS (Society of Management Research and Consultancy). This article is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
This statement confirms that the author(s) retain copyright while the journal holds non-exclusive publishing and dissemination rights.
2. Licensing Terms
All articles published in the Journal of Personnel Management are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
Under this license, users are permitted to:

-
The original source of publication must be acknowledged.
-
A link to the CC BY 4.0 license must be provided.
-
Any modifications, adaptations, or changes must be clearly indicated.
-
Attribution must not imply endorsement by the original author(s), journal, or publisher.
The journal does not impose additional legal, contractual, or technological restrictions that would limit the rights granted under the CC BY 4.0 license.
The license is irrevocable as long as its terms and conditions are followed.
For transparency, the copyright statement, CC BY 4.0 license information, and relevant license identification must be displayed on the journal website, individual article landing pages, and published article PDFs and/or HTML versions.
3. Author Rights
Authors publishing in JPM retain copyright ownership and their applicable moral and intellectual property rights.
Under the journal's non-exclusive publishing arrangement and CC BY 4.0 license, authors are permitted to:
-
Share their published articles through institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal websites, academic networking platforms, and other publicly accessible scholarly platforms.
-
Reuse their published work in future research publications, edited books, academic monographs, theses, dissertations, conference presentations, and teaching materials.
-
Incorporate portions of their articles into future scholarly projects, provided that the original publication is appropriately acknowledged.
-
Distribute electronic or printed copies of their articles without requesting additional permission from the journal or publisher.
-
Translate, adapt, or develop derivative works based on their published research.
-
Deposit and distribute the published version of record while maintaining proper bibliographic acknowledgement of its original publication in JPM.
Authors do not need additional permission from JPM or SMARCONS to exercise rights already granted under the CC BY 4.0 license.
The journal permits immediate self-archiving of the following manuscript versions:
Submitted Version (Preprint): The manuscript submitted before peer review.
Accepted Version (Postprint): The manuscript accepted for publication following peer review and editorial revisions.
Published Version of Record: The final published article containing the journal's official publication details.
All three versions may be deposited in appropriate repositories or shared through public scholarly platforms without an embargo period.
JPM does not charge authors any fee for exercising their self-archiving rights.
Authors are encouraged to include the article's complete bibliographic citation, DOI where available, and a link to the original publication when sharing the published version.
4. Journal and Publisher Rights
By agreeing to publish an accepted manuscript in JPM, authors grant the journal and SMARCONS (Society of Management Research and Consultancy) a non-exclusive license to:
-
Publish and reproduce the article in electronic and print formats.
-
Make the published article freely and immediately available through the official journal website.
-
Distribute and disseminate the article through scholarly communication channels.
-
Archive and preserve the article through appropriate digital preservation services and repository systems.
-
Register, deposit, and maintain article metadata and persistent identifiers, including DOIs where applicable.
-
Submit article information and full-text content, as appropriate, to scholarly indexing databases, repositories, and discovery platforms.
-
Promote the article through academic, educational, institutional, and digital communication channels.
-
Identify JPM as the original place of publication of the scholarly work.
These rights remain non-exclusive and do not constitute a transfer of copyright ownership.
The journal and publisher must respect the licensing and copyright arrangements under which an article was originally published.
5. Use of Third-Party Copyrighted Material
Authors are responsible for ensuring that any third-party material included in their manuscripts is used lawfully and appropriately.
Third-party material may include photographs, figures, tables, illustrations, research instruments, questionnaires, maps, charts, datasets, and other copyrighted content.
Authors must obtain the necessary permission from copyright holders when permission is required and ensure that the permitted use is compatible with the journal's publishing and open access arrangements.
Where third-party material is included, authors must provide appropriate attribution, copyright notices, and permission statements.
Unless otherwise indicated through a specific credit line, third-party material included in a published article is treated as part of the article's CC BY 4.0-licensed content.
Where any third-party material is excluded from the article's Creative Commons license, the exclusion must be clearly stated in the published article.
Users seeking to reuse excluded material must obtain permission from the relevant copyright holder where required by law.
Authors are responsible for the accuracy of copyright declarations and permissions submitted with their manuscripts.
6. Copyright Infringement and Licensing Concerns
JPM is committed to protecting intellectual property rights and maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record.
Any allegation of copyright infringement, unauthorized reproduction, plagiarism, misrepresentation of ownership, or improper licensing will be assessed by the editorial office in accordance with applicable copyright law and relevant publication ethics guidance.
Depending on the circumstances, the journal may request clarification, supporting documentation, evidence of permission, or a response from the relevant author(s).
Where an infringement or licensing violation is established, appropriate editorial measures may include correction of attribution or licensing information, removal or replacement of improperly reproduced material, or further editorial action consistent with the journal's publication ethics and retraction policies.
The journal will seek to resolve copyright-related concerns fairly while respecting authors' rights, third-party rights, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
7. Copyright and License Transparency
JPM is committed to maintaining clear and publicly accessible copyright and licensing information.
The journal shall make its copyright and licensing policies available through its official website.
For published articles, copyright ownership and license information should be clearly identified on the article landing page and within the published full text.
The journal's copyright statements, licensing metadata, and author agreements must remain consistent with its Open Access Policy.
Where article metadata are deposited with DOI registration or indexing services, the journal should ensure that licensing information is accurate and consistent with the terms displayed on its website.
8. Policy Updates
The Journal of Personnel Management may revise this Copyright & Licensing Policy in response to developments in copyright legislation, Creative Commons licensing guidance, open access publishing standards, indexing requirements, or recognized scholarly publishing practices.
Any material changes to the policy will be publicly communicated through the official journal website.
Policy amendments will normally apply prospectively and will not retroactively alter copyright ownership or the license terms under which previously published articles were distributed.
Rights already granted to the public under a valid CC BY 4.0 license cannot be unilaterally withdrawn by the journal or publisher.
