Abstract

Burns are one of the most dreadful conditions came upon in medicine. The injury represents stabbing on all aspects of the patient, affecting both the body and mind. The visible physical and the invisible psychological scars are life time and often lead to chronic disability. The survival rates for burn patients are improved significantly in the past few decades due to advances in modern medical concern in particular burn centers. Burns provide a suitable spot for bacterial growth and are more persistent in-habited sites of infection mainly because of the larger area involved and longer duration of patients’ stay in the hospital. Infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in hospital admitted burn patients. 50-60% of deaths in burn patients are caused by infections in spite of intensive therapy with antibiotics both topically as well as intravenous. There are four types of burn wounds and all require their own respective treatment and cure strategies. This review was conducted to check the epidemiologic shift of species over time. This may help update the empirical therapy. It was concluded that In gram positive species, staphylococcus aureus remained prevalent in 2020 while staphylococcus epidermidis remained high in 2021. Among gram negative species, klebsiella pneumoneae remained high in 2020 while pseudomonas aerogenes remained high in 2021. Candida albicans was the most common fungi found throughout.
